My go to South Asian Eats for Every Budget

London’s South Asian food scene is legendary. From Michelin-starred marvels to bustling BYOB institutions, the city offers a taste of the subcontinent to satisfy every craving and budget. Whether you’re seeking a luxurious dining experience or a quick and delicious bite, this list has you covered.

High Roller Haven:

Gymkhana: (Mayfair, West London)

This Michelin-starred restaurant delivers a sophisticated take on Indian cuisine, with a focus on game and seasonal ingredients. Expect elegant decor, impeccable service, and dishes like tandoori muntjac biryani and wild boar vindaloo. Be prepared for a hefty bill, but it’s worth it for a special occasion.

Mid-Range Marvels:

Dishoom: (Multiple Locations across London)

Transport yourself to the Irani cafes of Bombay at Dishoom. This trendy chain serves up delicious and affordable Bombay comfort food like keema pav (spiced minced lamb with bread), black dal, and their signature bacon naan rolls. They do breakfast, lunch and dinner but do prepare to queue if you are heading there for dinner (although if you are lucky they will bring you a drink whilst you wait).

Tamila: (Kings Cross and Clapham)

This just opened in 2025 and is absolutely one of my favourites. They have a simple menu showcasing incredibly flavourful south Indian dishes. I had the best tandoori chicken here outside of India.

Budget-Friendly Bites:

Lahore Kebab House: (Whitechapel, East London)

A true London institution, Lahore Kebab House has been serving up mouthwatering Pakistani kebabs and curries for decades. Their legendary lamb chops, grilled over charcoal, are a must-try. With no-frills decor and BYOB policy, it’s perfect for a casual and affordable feast.

Tayyabs: (Whitechapel, East London)

Just a stone’s throw from Lahore Kebab House, Tayyabs is another Whitechapel legend known for its Punjabi cuisine. Expect generous portions of flavorful curries, tandoori dishes, and their signature dry meat. The lively atmosphere and BYOB policy make it a popular spot for groups.
